In the South of Pieria, next to the National Road,
the Byzantine Castle of Platamona stands proudly on
a hill. The Castle was build in the year 1.205 A.D.
by the King of Thessaloniki, Boniface Mampheratius.
From this strategic point the rulers had the capability
of controlling the passage through the Tempi towards
the plains of Thessalia as well as the sea of Thermaikos
gulf. Today the Castle is open to the visitors.
