Makrygialos is a full green seaside village of the northwest of the Aegean sea. Geographically it belong to Pieria and it's one of the most picturesque resorts. It's built near a big beautiful beach which gave it's name to the village (Makry = long, gyalos = beach). Only 20 km from Katerini and in a short distance from Thessaloniki. It is
connected by mutual bus service with them. It is also on the railway of Thessaloniki and Athens.
The population of the village is about 1.600 residents whose main occupation is agriculture and of course fishing. The cultivation and production of mussels is also important to mention to.It's greatest advantage are its three lovely beaches: The beach of Agiannis which took it's name from a very old a snow-white church which is the smallest from all but full
of green as of course all Makrygialos is. There are also the two camping of the area the camping hotel Agiannis and hotel Arion. The beach of Pydna, exactly near the ancient city which is a perfectly organized beach with sandy beaches, a parking and lovely bars on the edge of the sea. The big coast of Makrygialos which also gave it's name to the village (long beach). There is all the activity of the area with the bars, the restaurants where you can taste the delicious fish of the Aegean
sea. It has all the necessary public services that will help and make easier your stay there while more than 2.100 visitors can stay in rooms without counting the visitors of the Camping. The climate of the area is generally mild. The hot days are rare because there are frequent winds which coming from the sea. The most wet month of the year is December and the most dry is July. A few meter out of the borders of the village of Makrygialos there is the ancient city of Pydna. The
history of Pydna (or Kydna that means glorious) is in the first half of the 7th century B.C. It was the only situated harbor of Macedonia until the foundation of Thessaloniki and gave her great strategical importance. After passing many wars and internal crashes, a little after 300 B.C. is once again a great force in navy having 36 ships. In 168 B.C. in the mountains of Pydna the Macedonian army was crashed by the Romans and this means the beginning of the Roman empire. Nowadays the
excavations found out that the city was strong in the centuries that followed as well without always being first. In the excavation were found attic vases of exceptional art, small objects coins, etc. In three different positions were found cemeteries with graves of classical, Greek and Roman period.
